Cleaning compact brake?

I've got several compact brakes on rifles, for our Ultra 7, and I've noticed that the finish on them has gone from smooth to very rough. The threading is just fine. I'm only referring to the gas port areas. Do I need to clean my brakes or do anything special to them? Does it matter that the finish has changed?

I have not removed them since installing them and I know they get exposed to the solvents I use to clean my rifles. About all I can do is wipe them off on the outside after I clean the barrel.

What is the proper procedure for cleaning with a CB attached?

You can clean them with a wire brush and carbon solvent!

Do you recommend removing them periodically and cleaning them with a wire brush or just clean them while they're installed on the barrel?

No need, just clean in situ
